CHRISTMAS WITH THE VALLEY CHAMBER CHORALE

Location: St. Croix Prep Performing Arts Center at St. Croix Prep Upper School*

Celebrate Christmas with the Valley Chamber Chorale as we share a festive and sparkling array of traditional, popular and new holiday favorites. The memories of Christmas past can inspire us to reach inward and share our special moments with those we hold dear. We are delighted to share Christmas carols and songs that have been cherished through the years and are still treasured today. Many will likely be as familiar as that “special ornament” hanging on the tree; a few may be new ornaments, that with time, become a tradition too.

* Please note that the venue for these concerts has changed due to renovations at the Historic Washington County Courthouse.

JUBILATE DEO

Sunday, March 3, 2024 - 3:00pm

Dan Forrest’s Jubilate Deo brings to life the global aspect of the traditional Psalm 100 text, “O be joyful in the Lord, all ye lands.” Scored for chorus, orchestra, and soprano and alto soloists, Jubilate Deo is set in seven different languages including Mandarin Chinese, Zulu, Arabic, Hebrew, Latin, Spanish and English and draws from a wide spectrum of musical influences that results in a symbolic gesture of unity between cultures. Dan Forrest has been described as “having an intuitive understanding of how to write music that connects with both singers and audiences”.

Chiaroscuro

[KEE-AH-ROH-SKOO-ROH]

Sunday, May 5, 2024 - 3:00PM

Chiaroscuro is an Italian word, literally meaning “light-dark”. First developed in the Italian Renaissance by artists to create depth and contrast, chiaroscuro was also used to define a style of singing that speaks of the most balanced and beautiful of voices. Stretching the meaning to fit into today’s world, this concert will bring into focus the contrasts of light and darkness as we work to more fully illuminate the rights and wrongs we encounter in the world around us. We each have our own light. So, no matter what challenges might arise, we must step into the light and move forward. To be the light means in times of darkness we offer hope, encouragement, kindness and compassion. In times where others are struggling, we offer a way to help them to regain their glow and to shine. To see the good and the beautiful - it is in this that truth is re-established. Hope is being able to see the light despite all the darkness. In this concert the VCC will ask “Can We Sing the Darkness to Light?”.
